Target Perfect Order: A Supplier Review Checklist

Review ASN availability, data accuracy and physical labeling against the current Target requirements for your account.

Published by RevyaPublished Updated

Target's Perfect Order program connects shipment information with what arrives at receiving. To investigate a charge, identify whether it concerns an advance shipping notice, the accuracy of that notice or the physical barcode on the shipment.

Confirm the policy that applies

Use the current Target supplier documentation and the notice attached to the charge. Save the effective date, fee basis, affected shipment, response deadline and allowed exceptions. This guide does not publish a universal per-carton fee, percentage penalty or two-week filing deadline.

Check ASN availability

For a missing or late advance shipping notice, retrieve the original transmission, acknowledgement and any rejection message. Compare the accepted transmission time with the policy's required event. Sending a file does not establish that it was accepted.

Check ASN accuracy

Match the notice to the purchase order, shipment, item identifiers and quantities. Check case-pack conversions and whether a correction was transmitted and accepted. Preserve both the original and corrected records so the sequence is clear.

Check physical barcodes

Compare the carton or pallet label with the identifier in the electronic shipment record. Collect photographs from the relevant shipment and any scan verification records. Check the current labeling guide rather than relying on a generic barcode size or placement rule.

Build the dispute packet

  • Charge reference, purchase order, shipment and receiving location.
  • The specific rule being evaluated and its effective version.
  • EDI logs, acknowledgements, shipment records and label evidence.
  • The exact correction requested and a calculation of the disputed amount.

Submit through the account's required channel, retain confirmation and assign the next follow-up. Match any approved credit back to the remittance before recording recovery.

Connect compliance to account profitability

Repeated valid charges are a cost-to-serve issue. Repeated incorrect charges need evidence and follow-through. Keep those separate in the connected Revya record, then incorporate actual account costs into trade planning.
